Center Stage has been proud supporters of the amazing organization, Charleston Heart. We donate portions of our ticket sales made during productions to further the HEART Mission. Another organization Center Stage that supports is We Are Family, the only agency in South Carolina that provides direct services to LGBT Youth. Within the past year, Center Stage has held 2 "Keep It Gay Cabaret" fundraisers, directed by Caroline Connell, in which all proceeds were donated to We Are Family for their mission.
About HEART Mission
"[We] provide an innovative art and theatre community that promotes creative expression, independence, dignity and community integration for differently abled adults.
HEART began in the summer of 2014 out of a need for stimulating day activity programs for adults with developmental disabilities in the Charleston area. Our mission is to provide an innovative art and theatre community that promotes creative expression, independence, dignity and community integration for differently abled adults.
HEART Artist Guild & Theatre Company is a 501c3 non-profit. We are not a traditional isolated and non-stimulating sheltered workshop like the majority of services available for adults with disabilities in our community. We are a creative and adventurous family of artists, performers, and nature lovers!
HEART is a model for inclusive programs where nature and city adventure, arts, and theatre are used to connect adults (21+) with disabilities and their communities. HEART members (aka; heARTists) create visual and performance art, go on nature & city explorations, and have great fun while making meaningful contributions to society.
HEART strives to make creative and outdoor experiences accessible to everyone by providing opportunities for individuals to express themselves creatively and to become engaged in their community and the nature around them. Inclusive and adaptive activities enhance personal and social skills and help differently abled people understand their place in the world. People in the larger community can come to see for themselves that we are much more like individuals with disabilities than we are different."

About We Are Family
"We Are Family provides direct support, leadership development opportunities, and advocacy for lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer, questioning, intersex (LGBTQQI), and straight ally youth up to the age of 25. [Our] vision is that LGBTQQI and straight ally youth feel empowered to find their places in the world, in their families, and in their communities.
We Are Family began in April 1995 under the direction of Tom Myers, the father of a gay son. Tom recognized the need for support for LGBTQI youth, and WAF was born from the love of a father for his son. WAF initially focused on the use of direct mail to provide constructive information to people and community leaders that LGBTQI youth would normally seek out for counsel and support. The staff sought out speaking engagements whenever possible, at churches and other public places to spread a message of understanding and acceptance. In early 1997, WAF began to offer direct services (SafeSpace) to LGBTQI youth in the Tri-County area through a weekly peer support group."
